Power budget for WiFi scan

Postby glitch911 » Thu Dec 20, 2018 10:01 am

Hello all,

I'd like to use ESP32-WROOM-32 module only to scan Wi-Fi (for now).
I've seen that the deep-sleep current is about 5uA which sounds OK but what would be of great interest is the amount of energy (in mAh for example) that takes the entire operation : wake-up, scan WiFi, go to sleep.

On another hand 5uA is OK but not great. For this first step I'll keep my external MCU (<2uA in sleep with RTC) and switch the power supply to the ESP module only when needed. Again I'd like to know the amount of energy (in mAh) that takes the entire operation : power-up, init, scan WiFi.

I think you need to optimize these functions in terms of power consumption as many IoT geolocation solutions will be interested in if the power budget is affordable :)

Thomas,
