I2S and 8 Bit samples

Hi Everyone,
I am experiencing the issue stated here:

Has anyone got any more info on this?

Any idea? I have tried simply removing the check, and allowing 8 bit samples, but it still wont work, i just get static/noise. 16Bit works no problem.
