ESP32 module dropping wifi connection

I brought a few modules from amazon.com for development on a sprinkler system. The modules connected to wifi because i can see it on my router's devices list, however the device is not responsive. I tried to ping the device and seeing about 50-60% package drop. Originally i thought i was a bad module so i tested the others (3 total of same brand and one of different brand) and they are all about the same.

My question is, is that typical for esp32? I have a few esp8266 nodeMCU and they are fine with pinging. Could it be the ESPHome firmware that i use?
