Esp32-PICO-D4 Antenna Matching circuit

Postby Espression » Tue Dec 31, 2019 5:10 am

In the ESP32-PICO-D4 datasheet the matching network is shown like the first image which shows a C, L, C network, whereas the matching network in the ESP32-PICO-KIT-V4.1 schematic shows a matching network like the second image which shows a L, C, C network. Which one of these is correct?

There's no "correct", a matching network needs to be tuned for each particular PCB design and so will vary between them. The first schematic has a placeholder (don't pay too much attention to the values or symbols, they will share the same footprint and so any of those positions may be populated with whatever is required, or even not populated at all). The second image is obviously after they've had the RF analysed to establish that layout and those particular values.
In at least one hasty design, I've just connected the antenna feed directly to the pin and found the performance satisfactory.

Ok so they RF analysed the design even to get the layout in place, so there wouldn't be any recommended layout for those matching parts correct?
