Why does JTAG fail on ESP32-S3-DevKitC-1 ?

Postby Johnny2598 » Tue Apr 26, 2022 7:43 pm

Hello,

Recently I purchased an ESP32-S3-DevKitC-1 and an ESP_PROG and currently, I am setting up the toolchain and IDE. I have successfully set up openOCD and can connect to an ESP32 WROOM device however I cannot connect to the ESP32-S3-DevKitC-1. The device seems to be unresponsive as can be seen below where I have the ESP_PROG connected to the ESP32-S3-DevKitC-1.

See attachment 1

Here I attach the output when I attach JTAG to the ESP32 WROOM

See attachment 2

Any ideas why this is happening? I purchased the unit from mouser the reseller does note that it is an engineering sample maybe this is an issue ?

Thank you

By default, the JTAG is connected to the internal USB-serial-JTAG converter, accessible over the micro-USB port labeled 'USB'. You can use that, but if you do not want to, you need to blow an eFuse to change that. The docs do a pretty good job at explaining the details.
