We have been using ESP8266 in our products for many years. We use STM32 processors to communicate with the module using the AT command firmware already installed. We do not need to program the ESP8266 before use.
Now we are looking to switch to the ESP32. We installed some ESP32-WROOM-32E modules on the prototypes and they appear to have firmware installed but they do not communicate on the UART1 port. It does not appear that the module is even driving the TX pin (GPIO17). We have some of the SOLO modules and they do appear to be programmed with the ESP-AT firmware. These are not recommended for new design though.
We do not want to add the extra step of programming the WiFi module on each board. Even if it only takes a minute per board this could add thousands of dollars a year to the assembly cost. My question is, are there any modules we can buy that com preprogrammed with the ESP-AT firmware? I've tried contacting Espressif directly but never heard back.
Thanks,
Bob
