With a jumper between GPIO13 and GND, running your example code, I don't see any wakeup happening.
Which development board are you using?

It is perhaps the way I do it that is wrong. I have attached the wire to GND already and then with the other end connect to GPIO13 it then trigger a wake up. It must be EMI when wire touches GPIO and a pull down resistor would perhaps filter out this

It still does not work with this simple setup.
I have changed the wake up stub to be delayed with 500 ms as suggested in this thread.
I have a AC adapter (5 volts) that goes into a 3.3 voltage regulator and the output (3.3 volt) is wired to GPIO13 directly.
I would then expect GPIO13 to be set high when I plug the AC adapter to power and trigger the wakeup and it does - sometimes.
If I repeat this process there is no pattern for when wakeup is triggered.
Why would that be?
