ESP32-WROOM-32U bootloop at 50C

Postby kevin42491 » Fri Mar 05, 2021 3:24 pm

Hi all,

I am using the ESP32-WROOM-32U on a custom pcb with the Arduino nina-fw. https://github.com/arduino/nina-fw

During testing I've noticed the esp32 will start to bootloop after the chip reaches near 50C. The ESP32 will not return to normal operation until the temperature is reduced to about 30C.
The operating temperature is listed as 125C in the datasheet.

Are there any hardware considerations I should be aware of when trying to run the esp32 above room temperature?
Has anyone had any issues with this before?

Thanks

Hm, strange. While the ESP32 is specced up to 125C, the Wroom only can handle 85C as the flash in it is the limit there. Still, 50C is 35 degrees short of that. Are you sure the issue isn't e.g. a bad solder joint on the PCB that only plays up on high temperatures?
