ESP32-WROOM-32E with Visual Studio?

I'm sure this has been asked before so, if there's a thread that answers these questions already please point me to it. Here's some background:
a) I have significant experience using microcontrollers and designing boards, etc.
b) I've designed a board with an ESP32-WROOM-32E on it and I think have set it up to allow download (serial port) and debug (JTAG),
c) I've written some test code based the Espressif libraries and demo code using Visual Studio Code on the ESP32-DEVKITC that works fine (for download) but haven't tested the JTAG debugger on it,
d) I want to setup my application to use the ESP-PROG JTAG debugger/programmer, but I haven't stumbled on a good description of how to set that up in Visual Studio Code (I found some Youtube stuff but the descriptions were a little unclear in details),
e) While I was looking at this I came across a number of references that seemed to use Visual Studio (not the Code IDE).
f) I would MUCH prefer using the standard Visual Studio if that's a reasonable option.

So, here are some questions:
1) Is development with the ESP32-WROOM-32E reasonably smooth (i.e. does it work reliably without issues)?
2) Is setting it up reasonably straight-forward and well documented? If so, can someone provide links to such?
3) Does it work with the Espressif libraries? can you build projects with their demo code reasonably easily?
4) Does debugging work like you'd expect in Visual Studio? Are there any annoying or limiting issues with such?

I really would like to move from Visual Studio Code to Visual Studio if that's a reasonable development environment for these modules. So, any help, advice or links/references anyone can provide is appreciated.
