u1 the voltage regulator
So, what should this look like?

Also there is no flash chip on the schematic so are you using esp32-u4wdh?
You have all the information I have. Is this, perhaps, the extra hardware that the designer mentioned?
Where should it go and how is it connected?

Thanks

Should be connected to vbat_out instead of vbat+ but might still work.

No I don't have the bill of materials you sent to the pcb manufacturer

First step is to test the 3v3 testpoint with a meter

According to that your board has no flash so it won't do anything useful even if you get the USB comms working. It is a faulty design.

That's a bit of a killer blow. I'm trying to get a response from the designer. I'll let you know what he says.

Thanks.

Hi,

I'm told that the flash is the PSRAM, so it is included. The designer has had another look and he is satisfied that it is correct. However, we still can't get a connection on a serial interface.

Flash and psram are different and not interchangeable so he is wrong

I just found this post

https://www.esp32.com/viewtopic.php?t=6670

I didn't understand much of it but it seems to be saying it's possible to use psram as flash but difficult. Just asking the designer for his view. He seemed to be saying it could be used for both the camera and the MCU.

Just clutching at straws, really.
