WIFI timing

I need for power consumption calculations some timing informations.
How much time is needed to open wifi connection on access point, send a small block (1Kb) and close connection again?

Depends on a lot of things, maybe 5-10 seconds from powerup? Amazon dash button takes ~15sec to do its business.

My use case is a sensor connecting to Wifi and transmitting every second a short message.
How can I reduce the power consumption between the messages.
Will the Wifi connection got broken if I switch to a sleep mode and finally how much time do i need to wake up and send one frame again?
