Application hangs during boot in function esp_intr_alloc_intrstatus

Postby Laurent Louf » Mon Sep 09, 2019 9:07 am

Hello,

I have a weird random bug with my ESP32. Some time (this time after flashing, but I think it also happens on normal reboots), the ESP32 will just perform the first steps of the boot and hang and never go any further. This isn't an UART configuration problem since all messages that I get are those after the initial messages ((re)boot reason and some other stuff). In such a case, this is the log I get :

I have used meld to try to spot some difference between the two logs, but the only one is the RTC_SLOW_CLK calibration value which is 3319514 in the hanging case, and 3302758 in the normal case. The ESP-IDF version I'm using is the following :
commit ed1304146bb379c0a8dcf141710b42364feb4734 (HEAD, tag: v3.1.2)
Merge: a18f92b09 1937bc2bd
Author: Angus Gratton <angus@espressif.com>
Date: Wed Jan 2 20:42:45 2019 +0800

Merge branch 'bugfix/timer_delete_dispatch_race_v3.1' into 'release/v3.1'

esp_timer: do not allow deleting timers while callbacks are dispatched (backport v3.1)

See merge request idf/esp-idf!3993
So it seems like the function esp_intr_alloc_intrstatus fails at some point, but the errors it can return are basically ESP_ERR_NO_MEM and ESP_ERR_NOT_FOUND. The no memory error seems pretty unlikely because with exactly the same memory usage (from the logs), the app can start without any issue most of the time. Looking at the second error description No free interrupt found with the specified flags it also seems quite unlikely since it happens before executing any user code.

Is this a known issue ? Any ideas ?
