Working solution to build wear levelling FAT partition

Is there one that anyone is actually using that works with ESP IDF 3.3?

The projects on github that are linked from old threads here do not seem to be recently updated, very complex and don't build.

It is way too slow and non atomic to obtain lots of files from a server.
