Battery Connection Question

I am currently running the following board: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0718 ... UTF8&psc=1

Everything works as expected from USB; however, when I run it from battery my code crashes on the BLEServer.init(). I have a barrel jack connected to 4AA NiMH batteries going into the GND and 5V pin. Can someone tell me what I may be doing wrong? Thanks!

Does the board also crash if you feed if off a power supply or via USB?

No. It only crashes on battery. Perhaps I need to change to a LIPO on 3v3 instead?
