Is it possible to develop for ESP32 on a Windows PC?

Postby mtailor » Sun Dec 04, 2016 10:35 pm

Hi
I have no Linux experience and I noted a month ago that development was only supported on Linux.
Is there a plan to provide a development environment on Windows?
Thank you in advance

Kind regards

For the longest time, I was a die-hard Windows environment user. I used Eclipse for just about everything. When working on ESP8266, I found myself jumping through so many hoops to get what others were saying they were already achieving on a Linux environment. I installed VirtualBox (free) on Windows and installed Ubuntu on top of that and then Eclipse for Linux on top of that. From that moment, Ive never looked back. I find the compilation times to be quicker than Windows and the Eclipse environment (for me) is indistinguishable. When I need GUI editors for text and other things I use Geany and LibreOffice. I continue to run Windows 10 natively with VirtualBox on top of that so the majority of my non development work (email, browsers etc) is still Windows based ... but for me ... the move to Linux was well rewarded.
