SPIRAM_IGNORE_NOTFOUND in release 3.0 ?

Postby jumjum123 » Mon Apr 30, 2018 8:33 am

Running make menuconfig, I cannot find this option anymore.
It was available in master for some time now. Why did'nt it make it to release ?
A very helpful option, otherwise we would need to maintain 2 binaries, one for WROOM and one for WROVER

It was actually merged in the master branch after 3.0 was already split off. At that point, 3.0 received the bugfixes from master, but not the new features. Hence it's not available in 3.0.

Sorry, but even after sleeping a night, I decided to tell my frustration.
ESP32 is a system which eats memory like crazy. There is no plan for the future to help for this problem (asked at embedded world)
To bypass this problem for our application, the idea was to use WROOM for small apps and WROVER for large apps.
So we waited, waited, waited for next release, and got ......
@ESP_SPRITE, your answer describes the problem. Everything takes too long.

I know, from a business standpoint this little drop to my frustration is abolutely uninteresting.
And, obviously, there are (ugly)ways out like maintain 2 binarys, add 5 to 6 lines in a local copy, take master and ignore releases, etc.

It's fair, previous 6 months have been disappointing. But now that they have moved offices, opened new offices, and are starting to release major new features like mesh and adf hopefully things are looking up. If there is no feature complete 4.0 final release before the end of the year I would consider that a big failure.
