ESP-WROVER-KIT pin mapping/ reset

Postby timredfern » Tue Mar 13, 2018 2:14 pm

I just received an ESP-WROVER kit

I'm looking at the documentation of http://esp-idf.readthedocs.io/en/latest ... r-kit.html and I'm confused by this statement:
Note
GPIO16 and GPIO17 are used as the CS and clock signal for PSRAM. To ensure reliable performance, the two GPIOs are not broken out.
On my board, pins 27 and 28 of the ESP-WROVER module are definitely connected to breakout pins IO17 and IO16. Are GPIO16 and GPIO17 different from IO16 and IO17?

I'm also confused by this:
EN
Reset button: pressing this button resets the system.
As I have downloaded my firmware and I'm watching it's console output: this button is not resetting the system.

I note that there are V1, V2 and V3 of the ESP-WROVER kit: http://esp-idf.readthedocs.io/en/latest ... index.html

My board is not labelled with any of V1, V2 or V3 and came with no printed information whatsoever. Looking at the photos, it appears to be V3.

GPIO16 and 17 probably are connected to the module (because the pins are available on the ESP-Wroom32 module that can also be fitted on the board) but they are not connected inside the esp-wrover module.

No idea why the reset button doesn't work. It's known that the reset circuit can be a bit finnicky because of the need to also automatically reset the board when flashing.
