MSYS Issues - cygheap base mismatch detected

Postby f.h-f.s. » Tue Nov 21, 2017 10:15 am

Last week after a windows 10 update MSYS started to fail.

After one reboot I was able to run "make monitor" again, but bash failed:
C:\Users\schr>c:\msys32\usr\bin\bash.exe
1 [main] bash (8348) c:\msys32\usr\bin\bash.exe: *** fatal error - cygheap base mismatch detected - 0xEC4408/0xFC4408.
This problem is probably due to using incompatible versions of the cygwin DLL.
Search for cygwin1.dll using the Windows Start->Find/Search facility
and delete all but the most recent version. The most recent version *should*
reside in x:\cygwin\bin, where 'x' is the drive on which you have
installed the cygwin distribution. Rebooting is also suggested if you
are unable to find another cygwin DLL.
1 [main] bash 7120 fork: child -1 - forked process 8348 died unexpectedly, retry 0, exit code 0xC0000142, errno 11
bash: fork: retry: Resource temporarily unavailable
I tried downloading MSYS again, that didnt help.

After the second reboot things are back to normal.

I'd like to know if this will happen again? Does anyone know a permanent fix?
This post seems to know more about it but I dont really see a permanent fixhttps://stackoverflow.com/a/9707777/1236798

Usually closing and reopening the terminal should resolve this, and you should only see it after upgrades.

If you follow the advice in the error and search your system for cygwin1.dll, does it find any other copies anywhere?

It just happend again, did not update esp-idf or anything else. My windows desktop only has 4gb memory, that could be the problem.
idf_monitor keeps crashing too...
