printf not working ?

Hi,
absolutly newbie.
Started with the simple Hello World example but it seems that printf or something does not work.
I see a few lines of a status message and after that only garbage lines over putty or monitor.
I connect via USB (ESP32 Thing from Spark fun)
Any Idea ?

What hardware are you using? Some hardware (eg the Sparkfun ESP32 Thing) uses a 26MHz crystal. If so, you need to select that under make menuconfig -> components -> esp32-specific -> main xtal.
