Bricked ESP32-S3

Postby Jorgie » Sat Nov 16, 2024 3:49 am

Hi
I have been quite happily using these devices:
https://core-electronics.com.au/esp32-s ... tired.html

However, when I went to upload a ESP IDF Example I appear to have bricked, not one but 3 devices.
How can I recover the devices?
What did I do wrong?

The code used is:

/**
 * Brief:
 * This test code shows how to configure gpio and how to use gpio interrupt.
 *
 * GPIO status:
 * GPIO18: output (ESP32C2/ESP32H2 uses GPIO8 as the second output pin)
 * GPIO19: output (ESP32C2/ESP32H2 uses GPIO9 as the second output pin)
 * GPIO4: input, pulled up, interrupt from rising edge and falling edge
 * GPIO5: input, pulled up, interrupt from rising edge.
 *
 * Note. These are the default GPIO pins to be used in the example. You can
 * change IO pins in menuconfig.
 *
 * Test:
 * Connect GPIO18(8) with GPIO4
 * Connect GPIO19(9) with GPIO5
 * Generate pulses on GPIO18(8)/19(9), that triggers interrupt on GPIO4/5

That board is programmed via USB, which uses GPIO19 and 20. Your example reconfigures GPIO19 as a normal GPIO, severing the USB connection. The solution is to force the board into download mode: hold the 'boot' button, press and release the 'reset' button, release the 'boot' button. You should now be able to upload a (different) program again.

Hi,
Thank you for such a prompt and correct reply. I have unbricked two out of three. I'll try the third one again tomorrow.
Regards
Sean
