ESP32-S3-WROOM-1 as method to wirelessly collect data

Postby zadb_tech » Thu Apr 11, 2024 4:47 pm

Hello! I am currently working to find a way to speed up WiFi transfer speeds of data that we are collecting.

Setup:
[Computer] ))) <-- WIFI connection --> ((( [ESP32-S3-WROOM-1-based board - connected to microSD card with data on it]

The unit with the ESP32-S3 installed is not accessible by hand, but can connect via the WiFi AP created by the ESP32-S3. So far I can only achieve between 800 kb/s (0.8 MB/s) and 1,400 kb/s (1.4MB/s) download speeds.

Whether I'm right next to it or it's in the isolated installation location (where WiFi is the only way to collect data from an SD card connected to the ESP32-S3 board), I only achieve the speeds mentioned above.

Has anyone gotten higher than this? We are using TCP and the microSD card is connected via SDIO to the ESP32-S3 module.

I see in the datasheet it mentions a max wifi speed of 150mbps or 18.75 MB/s. This is obviously the max ideal rate and not normally achievable, but is it possible to get higher than the roughly 8mbps (1 MB/s) we are currently achieving?

Thank you for any assistance and time to explore this!
