ESP32 power requirements confusion

Hello, I am using a DOIT ESP32 DEVKIT V1 board. Now, according to the official documentation, the Vin pin can take 5V-15V input. However, I was wondering if I could power it up using 18650 Li-ion battery which operates between 3.3V to 4.2V. If not, what are the next best battery choices I can use? I prefer if the battery pack size were small in size.

I usually power mine @ 3.3V, via breadboard power or an 18650 battery shield.
