Which capacitors?

Postby nicoj10 » Sun Jul 09, 2017 8:16 pm

Hi,
I am currently learning how to design PCB prototypes and I wanted to use a ESP32 module and just work on the provided ESP32-DevKitC implementation.

Unfortunately there are some resistors from the BOM that I can't find anywhere online.
Namely the for C1, C18, C20 used 10uF/25V(10%),0603 one. Here the problem is the tolerance, I can only find 20%. But more problematic is for example the 22uF/25V(10%),0603 at C3, which simply doesn't seem to exist in any close form.

As I am currently learning, I wanted to keep the sources of error down, so I wanted to be sure to use the right ones in my Design. It would be really nice if somebody could share his working BOM list and other files for a simple USB connected implementation.

Thank you in advance
Nicolas

You can probably use 10v/16v. Working voltage is 3.3v or 5v. If you plan to hand assemble you probably want to use 0805 anyway though.

Hi Nicolas,

As these are bulk capacitors their exact value is not as important as for some other components. I am fairly sure using the +/-20% parts will be fine. Or as WiFive suggested you could go down to 16V rated, although ceramic capacitors derate under DC bias so to be extra certain you may also want to go up a value to maybe 33uF 16V in this case. Either way I expect the capacitors will be adequate.
