Hope I have picked the right subforum !
I want a small cheap energy efficient WiFi board to extend reach of my miniPC to public APs 100 to 200 or 300m distant. ESP32 overview states Max Data rate 72Mbps@11nHT20; Assuming public AP use traditional 800ns GI, may limit that to 65Mbps.
But when I look at datasheets of ESP32 boards, hardly any state 11n speed. The UK designed Pycom WiPi states WiFi limited to 15Mbps - less than 25% of the ESP32 datasheet figure. Can anyone point to data giving typical real-world speed limit in 'Client mode', or if 15Mbps limit is really the norm, explain why such a drastic reduction between chip spec and board product spec ?
To eliminate possible causes of WiFi speed reduction, can assume the ESP32 board would be dedicated to TCP/IP 'Client mode' only, a USB or Ethernet link to host PC running so the SBC functions as a Client to serve my miniPC, CPU clocks at 240MHz if needed, Bluetooth and other non essential services turned off.
