esp32-c3 correct footprint needed

Postby pssivv » Sun Nov 20, 2022 10:10 pm

Could you please, recommended the correct footprint for ESP32-C3FH4, QFN32, 5x5mm.
1) ESP32-C3 datasheet package drawing specify 3.7x3.7mm GND pad. Figure 9. Package Info.
2) https://www.espressif.com/sites/default ... P32-C3.dxf gives a recommended PCB land pattern with the same 3.7x3.7mm GND pad.
3) however, esp32-c3_hardware_design_guidelines_en.pdf (Figure 15.) gives a different size of the GND pad? See attached snapshot.
Thank you.

Hi,

The recommended is 3.7x3.7mm as the guideline shows. Do not use the PDF picture as a reference for dimensions.

If you want to measure yourself, please consider using the GERBER file of the ESP32-C3-MINI-1 Reference Design module as a reference.

Hi ESP_Minatel,
Thanks for the prompt replay and shared design example! I will use it as a reference.

"Do not use the PDF picture as a reference for dimensions."
Right. I would not use that without clarification.
That PDF picture is from esp32-c3_hardware_design_guidelines_en.pdf. And every designer should use it as PCB design guide reference. Right? Obviously that PCB design guide is misleading and mistaken. As one can see recommended power/signal tracks and vias overlap with the proper size of the GND pad.

Hi,

I will ask our engineers to check the pictures used in the reference design.
Thank you for your feedback!
