ESP32-S3-DevKitC-1 : What are ROM messages printed to UART and USB/JTAG ?

Good afternoon,

I am reading the ESP32-S3 reference manual and I see on page 255
that ROM messages are printed by default on UART and USB/JTAG.

But what are ROM messages exactly ??
Is there something to do with the printf that appear in the example programs ???
