Voice streaming using Mesh

Hi all
Apologies if this is a double post, I wrote a post last night on my phone and it doesn't seem to be there, so trying again on my laptop.
I'm wondering if anyone has experience in streaming voice (low quality 4KHz would be ok) between multiple ESP32s using mesh networking? I've done some basic searching and there was a few people asking a long time ago, with no answers.
Any updates on this before I potentially waste several days trying it? Is nobody doing it because it doesn't work? Or is it so simple that nobody is posting about it?
I have an application in mind with multiple intercom stations on a standalone wifi network. Users will send/receive bi-directional voice audio. Some stations will be fixed location but some could also be portable and moving around. Having a mesh ability would be great for extra coverage.
Cheers - Mutski
