P2P data-update API suggestion

I'm looking for feedback on a project I'm thinking of starting, called "Onex".
Onex would be a C API for networking between devices, but not in the form of low-level messages that you hand-craft per application..
Instead, Onex would let you work with high-level data object updates, shared peer-to-peer.
It'd probably work in a mesh via proxy-cacheing nodes.
Here's my "design doc" for the Onex API:
.. https://github.com/DuncanCragg/Onex/blo ... DME-IoT.md
What do people here think? Could such an API be useful?
Cheers!
