Multi-root node Mesh network

Hello,
I am recently experimenting with the ESP Mesh functionality.
The project we are working on involves dozens of nodes, and should offer "Unlimited expandability" in the future.
This means, if I got that right, that the root node will face a huge amount of constant data streaming if the system and therefore the mesh reaches a certain size.
I thought of two solutions then:
- Is it possible, to configure the mesh in a way, to have multiple root nodes to split the load between multiple ESP's?
- Would it be somehow possible, to integrate something like a raspberry pi into the mesh, not as router but as root node, so that the maximum bandwidth is expanded and therefore no bottleneck will occur?
Thank you for your help,
Regards,
Sebastian
