Wifi connect fails after esp_restart()

I'm using a ESP32-S3-DevKitC-1 with esp-idf version 5.0

I restart the esp32s3 using the function:

esp_restart();


After rebooting, the wifi event handler intercepts a WIFI_EVENT_STA_DISCONNECTED event with reason WIFI_REASON_NO_AP_FOUND even though the AP is clearly active and other devices can connect to it just fine.
If I restart the board by pushing the reset button, the connection is ok.
