Hello folks,

I have backordered a dev board ESP32-S3-DevKitC-1-N16R8V, and I found that it embeds an ESP32-S3-WROOM-2-N16R8V chip. However, I could not find the datasheet throughout the official website.

What's the difference between ESP32-S3-WROOM-2 and -1? Are they identical? Thank you!

Hi kartg0058033,

the datasheet for ESP32-S3-WROOM-2 is currently in review, it should be published soon. The main difference of the -2 version is that it uses octal SPI interface to connect Flash/PSRAM.

Thanks for your immediate support. I have another question.
Are ESP32-S3-DevKitC-1-N16R8V (with ESP32-S3-WROOM-2) have the same pinout like other ESP32-S3-DevKitC-1 (using ESP32-S3-WROOM-1/1U)? I am afraid that additional SPI interface will affect available GPIOs. Thank you.

Hi kartg0058033,

The GPIO35 ~ 37 is used by internal Octal SPI PSRAM/Flash, when you use ESP32-S3-DevKitC-1-NxR8V (with ESP32-S3-WROOM-2) and ESP32-S3-DevKitC-1-NxR8 (with ESP32-S3-WROOM-1-NxR8).

Does the WROOM-2 Devkit being sold have the pins broken out like the WROOM-1 version? If not, is it smaller or in a different configuration?
