Hello. I am very curious to understand more about the new ESP32 S3 devices.

1. I have developed a few projects on ESP32 on esp-idf, I would like to know whether it will be easy to port them on ESP32-S3. Should it be as simple as just plugging and programming the ESP32-S3 device or it will be complicated?

2. I assume the ESP32-S3 is currently in early release state. When can we expect to have a stable version of ESP32-S3 so we can replace the ESP32 and switch to ESP32-S3 and develop our future products on ESP32 S3 instead

The -S3 is mostly compatible with the ESP32, but keep in mind this is source-code-level compatibility, as in: you will need to change your target and re-compile your project. A binary for the ESP32 will not work in the ESP32S3.

The ESP32-S3 silicon is stable at this moment (mass-production tapeout), but I imagine you mean ESP-IDF support? If so, you can see that on the Github page; in ESP-IDF v4.3, the -S3 is still in preview while in v4.4, it will be fully supported.

Also note that the ESP32S3 is not intended to replace the ESP32; we will support the ESP32 at least until 2028.

Thanks for the response. The main reason why we want switch to ESP32 S3 instead of ESP32 is the lack of pins which we always suffer on ESP32. The ESP32-S3 may solve this problem for us here.
