How many APB clock cycles does it itake to clear PCNT counter?

How many APB clock cycles does it itake to clear PCNT counter?

I wonder how many 40MHz pulses I will miss while clearing the PCNT counter hence my question in the subject. Also, is it recommended or required to pause-clear-resume the PCNT counter?
