spiffs uploads code successfully, no code uploaded

im trying to build an esp marauder, and every time i try to upload the sketch with spiffs, it goes through all the motions, compleling, compressing, uploading, verifies the hash successfully, and then reboots.

and then the esp proceeds to execute whichever sketch was last uploaded and i cannot find any trace of spiffs what so ever. i have no idea what could cause this or how to fix it, i just know that its very weird.

Perhaps there's some weirdness going on with OTA partitions? Can you erase the full flash using e.g. esptool.py?
