What are all the differences with the new ESP32-WROOM-32E compared to the ESP32-WROOM-32D?
Is the only difference the ESP32-D0WD-V3?
Are there any notable differences with the V3 Chip?

This is a note of caution for people considering using the ESP32-WROOM-32E instead of the ESP32-WROOM-32D. Please note that, unlike the ESP32-WROOM-32D module, the pins GPIO6 to GPIO11 of the V3 chip are not led out to the pins of the ESP32-WROOM-32E module. The impact is that one cannot connect an external PSRAM to the ESP32-WROOM-32E module. Prima facie, after reading the document shared here ->
https://www.espressif.com/sites/default ... de__EN.pdf one might think that a hardware upgrade is simply a drop-in replacement. However, the document is for the chip and not the module. We learned this the hard way

+1, thanks for the valuable input and topic.
From the ESP32-WROOM-E datasheet
https://www.espressif.com/sites/default ... eet_en.pdf, page 10, note pins 17-22:
Confirming the above, that the I/O 6-11 aren't broken out. Not an issue for most of us, but still a significant change.
