I know this is an old thread, but I was wondering if anyone knew any way to get access to something like the old-style API. I can't seem to get the performance out of the new API that I could the old. But, I will continue to chug. The callback-model is a much cleaner option for anyone who doesn't care about maintaining thread contexts... It's a little annoying to have to use the 1983 berkley socket style for some applications.
EDIT: After further testing it seems the old API was ~2-3x faster running on the 8266 than the current one running on the '32. (Specifically performance with websockets and web requests)
