While I agree with the general sentiment that you are almost certainly better off using the IDF for anything productive, I would be interested in seeing a "bare-metal" example if only to understand the build process better...

I assume it would be as easy as using the xtensa- tools to build, link and format an image and flash it to 0x00 using the ROM bootloader... I think the advice of checking the zephyr (etc) ports for the details of how to accomplish this is spot on.
