Can't power lolin32 by 5v.

I can power it from the usb port, I can't power it from the 5v pin with a 5v input and gnd input connected.

I get a 5v signal from the voltage meter. I tried pushing the reset button or even grounding the en pin to see if that works. I even tried a different 5v source

If i leave it plugged in for a few minutes the device warms up like it does when it's normally running so it seems like it might be working. I just can't connect to the AP from it to see what's going on. Any advise?
