Any firmware for an easy BlueTooth SPP passthru connection like those HC-06 modules?

I am looking for an alternative to those HC-06 modules because they are more expensive than a simple WROVER module and I don't like to source parts from amazon etc. I would like to replace a serial port on an arduino with a WROVER acting like an HC-06 module. I've looked at ESP-AT. As great as the firmware, it doesn't come with classic BT commands and I have to compile its source. I can't compile it on my ESP-IDF 4.3. I've been using IDF for over 2 years with big project but I still can't tell what caused ESP-AT to not compile.

So is there any really simple firmware that I can use to make a few BT passthru modules? Thank you!
