hmm thanks. I'll try it out and see.

by the way, do we need to solder the small square in the middle to the board? How would that be done?

Ok, answering my own question here and hopefully it'll help someone else who has the same doubt:

Yes, the ESP32-T development board that I described in the original post (verson 2.0) is compatible with ESP32-S module. I finally got around to soldering it and it works perfectly.

Points to note:
1. The led1 is connected to Pin #2. So if you're using the Sparkfun blink example (https://learn.sparkfun.com/tutorials/es ... mple-blink), change the pin to #2.

2. In Arduino IDE, select the board as "ESP32 Dev Module". Also, the max. frequency that I could flash it to upload a sketch, is 230400 (If it's set to 921600 by default, please downgrade it).

3. Don't bother with the thermal pad at the bottom of the module.
