ESP32 for commercial products

Postby SoluESP » Sun Aug 08, 2021 10:55 am

Hello

I would like to know that can I use ESP32 for making commercial products (smart networks especially)?
Are there validated references (general or technical) about it?

Thanks

What kind of material/documentation are you looking for?

There is a document section on the official espressif website, this contains most of the datasheets and technical information on the chipsets and various modules.

A set of FAQs is available at: https://docs.espressif.com/projects/esp ... index.html

And for the esp-idf API guide check out: https://docs.espressif.com/projects/esp ... est/esp32/

And yes, you can use ESP32 for commercial products - go for it!

Thank you @ns1668 for the answer;
In fact, I'm looking for validated formal materials (as official references) to confirm that ESP32 passes requirements for commercial usages. So that, I will be able to cite them in my technical databooks.

Thanks

Hi SoluESP, a few facts to help in your evaluation, Espressif has been ranked the #1 Wi-Fi MCU vendor by third-party market analysts for several years. All the modules are certified to comply with most of the regulations world-wide, which you can check on the website. As far as specific commercial applications, you can read the history of the PR and newsletters, there's sometimes testimonials by clients, but you understand that all parties involved in commercial applications are bound by confidentiality agreements.

Hello
Thank you Franco for answering.
About the confidentiality agreement, do you mean that I need privilege from the Espresseif company for using its product(s) as a part of my commercial product(s)?
How can I find more materials for the confidentiality agreement?

Thanks

The 'confidentiality agreement' would be between Espressif ('us') and manufacturers who want to specifically deal with us to cooperate on bringing products to market (think FAE support in exchange for guaranteed sales of chips) and they tend to have sections that stop us from talking about the fact that ESP32s are used in that product. Other manufacturers do not need FAE support and will just buy chips/modules from us or our resellers; in that case they obviously have no need to tell us what these chips will be used for in the first place, and in the case of sales via resellers, we wouldn'r even know who they are. Being that as it is, it's hard to give lots of examples of ESP32s in commercial use aside from the customer testimonials that are sometimes mentioned on the website or on in our newsletter.

Note that you do not need a confidentiality agreement to use ESP32 chips in your products; on the contrary, most of the things we do is entirely in the open and you can source ESP chips from anywhere and put them in anything and you can sell it. The confidentiality agreements tend to be mostly between us and manufacturers if they need help with something but want to have the legal certainty that we will be careful with their trade secrets.
