esp32-based internet communicator (with keyboard) – solution advice…

Postby macle7400 » Mon Oct 29, 2018 10:04 pm

Hello,

I'm thinking about building some sort of simple internet communication solution for.... my 5,5y son (to communicate with him when I’m at work) ;-)

Yes, I know… I can give him my old smartphone / tablet etc.. but… it’s not a point (it would be too easy).
I think he would love to have such a 'pager' to communicate with dad.

So, what I wanted to archive is to two-way communication between:
1) esp32 based device + display + keyboard (my son at home)
2) regular iOS based smartphone (me at work)
Assumption: there is internet connectivity in both ends: esp32 can use my home wifi, my smartphone can use LTE.

So far I found very nice esp32 based ‘terminal’ - m5stack faces:
http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product ... 73578.html
It is portable, includes keyboard, display etc. everything what I need.

But how to create final solution?

I thought about using IFTTT on ESP32 side (there are few IFTTT libraries on github) , and IFTTT app on my smartphone, but I’m not sure if I can archive two-way communication.

Another idea is to use one of many push notification services (pushover etc) on both endss.

Any other ideas?

Regards, M
