Does version 1 or 2 of the ESP32 chip radio meet the requirements for Bluetooth 5?
Thanks,
Bluetooth 5 PHY and Stack Support
Re: Bluetooth 5 PHY and Stack Support
Hi Greenja,
ESP32 meets the requirement of Bluetooth version 4.2. And it will also be compatible with BR/EDR.
Because the full Bluetooth v5 has just released, ESP32 hasn't meet it.
Thanks

Re: Bluetooth 5 PHY and Stack Support
Thanks for the reply.
Let me reword the question. Is there anything preventing version 1 or 2 of the ESP32 Chip from running Bluetooth 5 if a Bluetooth 5 stack is available? (ROM based limitations?)
The only real physical limitation I can see would be on the output power of the radio. Although with a (published) -98dBm sensitivity, it has a pretty good link budget to begin with. With additional coding to improve sensitivity, this should easily reach -103dBm at 125kps or more. All other changes like the 2Mbit/s transfer rate and adjustable bandwidth should be firmware adjustable since the ESP32 supports dual mode Bluetooth.
Thanks,

Hi Greenja ,
The work on Bluetooth 5.0 is now on schedule. But we haven't started to do it. We plan to accomplish the Bluetooth 5.0 protocol.
Thank you
