ESP32-C3-WROOM-02 usb flash

Postby pepisdonato » Wed Mar 01, 2023 12:14 am

Hello,
i'm a really newbie, and i hope you will help me, understanding all my limits :D
I'm using esp32 devices for a while (M5Stamp/M5StickC/ESP32Dev/etc...). I recently bought 2 "raw/naked" ESP32 (9+9 pins).
Reading ESP32-C3-WROOM-02 datasheets, it seems pin 18 and 19 are respectively USB D- and USB D+.
What does it means?
Because i tried to connect an USB cable, wiring white cable (D+) to pin 19 and green cable (D-) to pin 18, but no new COM port was found on pc...
Then i tried to give 3v and GROUND (both coming from a lipo battery) to the board, but nothing happened again...
What is the minimum requirements to get the device available to flash (i suppose by a COM port), and how to switch between flash mode/boot mode? (do i have to "play" with PIN 9?)
I hope i was clear, thanks for any help you could give me

What you did was correct (although I wouldn't feed an esp the voltage from a LiIon cell directly in production... when just charged, the voltage is too much for an ESP32), but you need a bit more. Page 25 of the datasheet gives an indication, but generally you want to connect an 1uF capacitor to ground plus a 10K resistor to 3.3V on the EN pin, and a 10K to ground on IO8. You can try grounding IO9 for your first flash, the USB device should show up then. For good measure, it's best to also add some capacitance (10uF will do) between gnd and 3.3V; locate that close to the module.
