ESP32-C3-DevKitM-1 SHA-256 comparison failed

Postby GDM.VA » Fri Feb 11, 2022 2:47 pm

Dear all,
I'm facing the following error during boot:

ESP-ROM:esp32c3-api1-20210207
Build:Feb 7 2021
rst:0x1 (POWERON),boot:0xc (SPI_FAST_FLASH_BOOT)

load:0x3fcd6100,len:0x420
load:0x403ce000,len:0x90c
load:0x403d0000,len:0x236c
SHA-256 comparison failed:
Calculated: ccb0d00bac7e84e1d90a12e4f75f4ab6c5f7e71bb209afd5819c4c9557a6db71
Expected: c9cf160580940ec7801c73b16423824e72ad12055c732e83ce66332240af42a7
Attempting to boot anyway...
entry 0x403ce000

The application runs without any problem, but there is a way to fix this "issue"?
Many thanks in advance for your support.
Kind regards.

Sounds like a bit fell over in flash somehow... does re-flashing the chip solve the issue?

I saw the same issue with an AI Thinker ESP32-C3M module with 4MB flash, when I hooked it up to test, the factory flash content booted fine, but when I flashed some test code, saw this message. The code worked fine as far as I could tell :-). This was a couple of months ago.

I just checked another AI Thinker module C312F with 2MB flash, that I have reflashed many times, but am not seeing this message. I use Visual Studio Code + PlatformIO with arduino framework, maybe the packages were updated.

Hello ESP_Sprite & Pataga for your kind replies.
I never used ESP32 before: I will try to reflash the device, but...I don't know exactly how to proceed.
If you have any link/suggestion to the reflashing procedure, it could help a lot.
Thank you so much for your support.
Kind regards.

Hello,
I've just successfully re-flashed my board using "Flash Download Tool" and ESP32-C3 "factory_MINI-1.bin".
After that, I've downloaded again my application.
The SHA-256 issue is still present...
Do you have any suggestion to fix the problem?
Thank you for your support.

FYI Same SHA-256 boot warning on Lilygo TTGO T-01 esp32c3.

This was with Nuttx and ESP boot binaries. Not Arduino. All with the latest tools.

Multiple flase erase and reprogram no change. But seems to boot OK.

Hi,
on my side, it seems the warning happens only flashing my board from Arduino IDE; flashing an application from Espressif IDE, solve the SHA-256 issue.
I will use Espressif IDE instead of Arduino IDE...
I confirm the application runs even when SHA-256 warning is present.
