Thought you guys might be interested in a little gist (https://gist.github.com/blippy/ee1b0f97 ... 796c5b20f1) I created to get audio playing on the ESP32 in the simplest possible way. It seemed pretty cool to me, anyway, as it's the first time I've got it to work.
The gist contains a write-up as to how it all works, how you can adapt it for your own audio files, as well as the all-important code.
I'm really keen on getting seeing if I can get my "blinkt" working on the ESP32. In case you don't know, a "blinkt" is a bank of 8 LEDs, which you can show in any colour. It was designed for the Raspberry Pi, but I've experimented with i on other devices, and I see no reason why I can't get it to work with an ESP32.
I can then get the blinkt to act as a volume meter, giving it a really cool effect. Maybe I'll even be able to get the ESP32 to stream audio from wifi. We shall see.
Playing audio embedded on an ESP32 via DAC

And here's a video where I successfully stream audio over wifi using an ESP32-WROOM. A blinkt kit is included to give it a spiffy volume indicator. https://youtu.be/P5fPJ1hshdE
