I'm happy to announce my new ESP32 audio board called "WVR" is up on Kickstarter today. It pairs an EPS32 WROVER-B with 8GB of eMMC memory, a hifi DAC, and an opto-isolator for MIDI, and its only $23 USD.
There are also 2 different dev boards, a USB MIDI HOST add-on, and a stomp box version available as rewards.
I couldn't have done this without the help of many here. Thanks so much <3
Please check it out!

hi
interesting project that deserves attention, you have mine, and I think of many others too.
It has everything for a musician that is worth being there.
I have a few questions - maybe i overlooked small details;
so please do not see it as a criticism - maybe it's just turning numbers or I've overlooked something.
Reading your project i saw you use EPS32 WROVER-B :
ESP32-WROVER-B features a 4 MB external SPI flash and an additional 8 MB SPI Pseudo static RAM (PSRAM).
How do you get the mentioned 16 MB Ram / how you declared 4x4 via MMU?
16 MB RAM (available as 4 x 4 MB banks via MMU)
Do you pick something off the eMMC? That would be very interesting in a possible direction.
Not that it isn't possible - it's just FLASH, but I'm already curious.
I find your project interesting for me from a musical point of view.
from a second perspective because I work on a PSRAMBANK (8x64, 16*64, 32*128)
How do you turn 12MB into 16MB? Thats the question
Wish you many luck with your project that becomes real.
I like it and your project is on my wishlist.
Best wishes
rudi
edit:
I forget one question:
Do you go to support *.sf2 soundbank format?
Only a musican thinking over for more possibles.

Thank's so much for your kind words, I do appreciate the encouragement, it's been a long journey to get this out!rudi ;-) wrote: ↑Sat Dec 26, 2020 8:02 pmHow do you get the mentioned 16 MB Ram / how you declared 4x4 via MMU?

Here is a link to the ESP32 module that I use, with the large 16MB of flash. It's totally possible that I am incorrect to call this RAM, it seems like Random Access Memory, even though it is persistent. I do appreciate your input on that, it looks like you are in the know

WVR does not handle .sf2 files. This is actually the first time i've heard of them. I feel like it would be fairly trivial to implement that though?
edit: looking into .sf2, I think the way I'd go about implementing this feature would be with this JS library.

WVR uses the browser to convert files before uploading to the eMMC, so this would be a quick and effective solution. I will build this into the firmware, and I do appreciate the feature request. This will be awesome for people working with this file format. I'd also be REALLY happy to work with you to find a way to take advantage of all the other features of this file format, above and beyond getting the audio out. There's no reason we couldn't easily reconstruct the instruments, and everything else it offers

I wish you the best on your Kickstarter project. If I may suggest something about Kickstarter the video. IMHO, the video would have been much better if you had shown it in action.
