connection fails with repeaters

I have a user that cannot connect to his home wifi. He has a router with two repeaters, all with the same ssid and password and all on channel 1. At the position where he is trying to connect, the three signal strengths are approximately -48, -73, and -78 dbm. The connection attempt is using the ssid and password (not using bssid). Unfortunately, he is 300 miles away and I have no other debug information. Could the repeaters somehow be interfering with the connection? There don't appear to be any other devices connected that would create significant traffic problems.

I may have solved my own problem. I suspect that the repeaters are using WEP for security, which I don't currently support.
