Bluetooth source from I2S input?

Hi all,
I'm currently trying to get a bluetooth source up and running that will receive its audio input from the I2S peripheral.
I've tried to modify the BT source example provided in the ESP-IDF but I'm getting mostly noise out of the BT receiver unit (which I have confirmed to be working properly), the noise is related to the fundamental of the original source signal, something is very wrong. Anyone know of any documented examples for what I'm describing?
