Vscode idf.py commands not working

New to esp32 development and tried to install and configure the ESP-IDF extension for Vscode. Was able to build and flash blink and get it running but any of the idf.py commands weren't used.

Eg. 'idf.py -p COM4 flash_reset' in the Vscode powershell terminal would just take me to the idf.py instead of executing. I closely edited my path and enviroment variables, tried killing terminals and opening new ones, nothing worked. I think it could be something python related.

I was able to most of the tutorials but couldn't use the python scripts.

Does it work if you do it from the command palette ?
ESP-IDF: Select port to use (the board must be connected to the pc to use this command)
ESP-IDF: Flash
